    Something that lifted my January

    ME184-Banner.jpg

January won’t last forever. The days are slowly growing longer, the mornings a little brighter, and here are my tips for enjoying the month. Treat yourself to the simple comforts of a hot cuppa, a warm fire and enjoy the quiet reassurance of life’s small pleasures. This year, I gave Lord T a lino print kit for Christmas, and he has been beavering away at a likeness of his beloved Bengal cat, “Billy the Kit” (below). I’ve never known him so quiet, absorbed in his work, surrounded by little curls of cut lino. Watching the pattern slowly emerge is oddly calming, and it struck me that January calls for much the same approach: a gentler pace, fewer demands, and choosing things that feel comforting and quietly cheering.

Prints have a way of doing just that. A pattern doesn’t need to shout to lift the spirits. Sometimes it’s the repeat, a touch of colour or a motif you recognise that changes how something feels to wear. Clothes have a way of lifting the mood when you least expect it.

That thought stayed with me as I looked through our collection and noticed the printed pieces I instinctively recommend at this time of year. Things with a bit of character that are easy to wear and quietly uplifting.

A FEW PRINTS I’M PARTICULARLY FOND OF THIS JANUARY

    Green Fairisle Crew Neck Sweater

I like to return to a Fairisle pullover at this time of year. This familiar heritage pattern, with its softer greens, is made in England by hand-framed knitters, giving it a cosy character that lasts.

Green Cross Design Supima Cotton Socks

Made just down the road from Trouser Towers by Peper Harrow. Top-quality socks for your tootsies! I like these for their simple but striking graphic pattern; the small crosslets add interest to the calm olive base. A little treat for your toes to lift your mood in the morning.

    Blue Harris Tweed Chore Jacket

Create an impression without really trying in this beautiful British-made chore jacket. Made in Britain from 100% wool, the blue herringbone cloth has loads of character, and the unstructured, laid-back cut is a dream to wear. An outstanding everyday layer with plenty of heritage woven in.

Blue & Red Marble Silk Scarf

Inspired by the almost forgotten art of paper marbling, this scarf features a fluid, flowing pattern and the beautifully soft feel of pure silk. Distinctive, full of character, and a real treat to wear.

Tan Paisley Hand Painted Leather Belt

Spanish belts of Spanish leather... the intricate hand-painted patterns will enhance any outfit you choose to wear. I love this belt; our leather artisans describe it as a little piece of art framed in just 5cm of leather.

Sky Blue Hares Silk Pocket Squares

Designed in-house by our talented Georgia, she has played with our Hares logo to create this distinctive pocket square. Printed in Macclesfield and finished by hand, it’s an easy way to add charm to your jacket pocket.

    Broadway Limited Edition Braces

Add a bit of fun to the day when you choose these charming braces drawn by Simon Drew. Inspired by old theatre prints, this limited edition is sure to raise a smile when getting dressed on a dark morning. These braces could only be made in Britain!

Billy the Kit seems politely approving of his printed likeness, although I suspect he’ll be more interested in sitting on the finished copies than admiring them.

January doesn’t need grand gestures. A creative moment, a warm cup of tea, or a favourite piece of clothing with a bit of pattern and personality can be quite enough.

    With love,

    Miranda,

    Founder and Buying Director
